hey back home. not bad.
from 18 to 22 dec i went to malaysia. from 25 to 31 dec i went to taiwan.
short update on the trips.
malaysia.
we went to genting, penang, kl and malacca. stayed a night in genting, 2 in penang, a day in kl and on the way back passed by malacca. i went with a huge group comprising my family as well as extended family, 14 of us in total. =) damn fun. on the first day we made our way to genting, sitting in the coach for goodness-knows-how-long. my brother and i did not slp the night b4 (we had to go to that golden mile place at arnd 6 plus so we figured we didnt need to slp since we normally slpt at arnd 4 or 5) it was hard trying to stay awake seriously. to pass the time i watched my girl which till now i STILL haven't finished. how slow. haiz.
when we got to genting, it was completely foggy. methinks that there was a cloud on top of the mountain hence the extreme fog/mist/ whatever. it was so bad that at some points it was almost "shen shou bu jian wu zhi" if i got the expression correct. yup so obviously the outdoor themepark was closed and very sadly for us, we had to make do with the indoor one which is small, unexciting and complete with extremely long queues. at night, we went out to stand in the fog, the wind was strong, it was freezing cold, but it was very fun in a warped way. (luckily none of us caught a cold, but i kinda coughed the entire trip not so good but tt happened b4 e trip) then at 1 plus am, 8 of us (the youngsters) went to watch eragon in genting. well the tix were cheaper so we figured why not. well the movie's not bad but it's SO different from the book. the book is better def. after that we played tong xiao cards and took shifts slping. we conked out at abt 5 plus and had abt an hr to slp (morning call 6.30).
the rest of the days in malaysia. i can't exactly rmb well coz they mostly comprised of going to various temples. and we don't believe in the faiths, i'm freethinker really. and we saw a huge statue of guan yin. almost a pilgrimage man. and the very wonderful thing was that ALL the temples we went to involved climbing steps, so we had to climb... quite tiring.
we saw lots of caves too and most caves were temples. limestone caves, stalactites and stalagmites (did i spell correctly). was quite happy to see them (geog student mah) but it sadly kinda reminded me of the os.
the days kinda passed in a whirl. i mostly remember being in the coach.
and in case any of u wanted to know whether i was caught in the flood, i wasnt, luckily. still extremely alive ok.
now for taiwan. i cannot possibly blog on all of them cos the trip was really long and interesting. and the days passed so fast that i simply cannot organise them into meaningful chunks. it's all in a blur, still reveling in the experience. i loveddd the trip.
for many reasons. i always wanted to go to taiwan to meet all the ou xiangs in the ou xiang ju. well obviously i am not so lucky so as to meet or even catch a teeny glimpse of them. but nvm breathing the same air helps. =) and the weather there was GREAT, just slightly cold and lovely and quite unlike the sweltering heat of the singaporean weather we all are used to. (r u guys feeling jealous). lucky for us in the tour, we didnt encounter any rain or bad weather and it wasnt bone-chillingly cold either.
we didnt kena the earthquake either. it happened in the southern part and we happened to be at hualien if i'm not wrong then. nothing happened to us. we're perfectly safe. oh man so extremely lucky. (my family escaped 2 disasters)
ok ignore all the unfortunate things. the trip was greatt. seriously. we went around the island. saw alot of shan shui. mountain and water. it was great after all that living in the concrete jungle. taiwan faces pacific ocean on one side so the waves are very strong. lots of cliffs, erosional features. we also saw this beach filled with shingle (not sand) and the waves were so damn strong. maybe not really, but those used to seeing the lil waves lapping at east coast will find it damn strong. i think u can be swept away if u tried standing there. but it was sooo beautiful. really. i cannot even begin to describe.
saw alot of temples there too. not bad la.
encountered loads of brainwashing too. esp when getting us to buy stuff. hmmm. one wonders if they are really so effective. (ESP FOR THE PIQIU can) (dunno how to spell) i refuse to believe that buying smthg like tt can better ur life, or that ur name decides ur life. it doesnt just work like that right. if only so then everyone will be rich and wealthy and very happy!
on one of the days (i think friday) we went to jiu zhu wen hua chun, some aboriginal cultural village. haiz, interested though i am in the aboriginal cultures, i found the village rather boring. the performance was not bad. it showcased the ami and atayal tribes. not bad la. but the village itself was rather, if i may say so, superficial. BUT there were rides there. super fun and with absolutely no queues at all! shiok man. i esp liked the roller coaster and the ufo thingy. (the suicide preparation) damn fun. SOME ppl chickened out of the UFO ride if i rmb correctly at the very last minute =D. hehheh. obviously afraid of heights if i may say, But who isnt? =) once again. hahaha. ok nvm. yeaa. it was just damn fun... but the ufo ride IS slightly scary la. every second on the thing i think to myself: what if the safety thing is wonky? but it wasnt otherwise i wouldnt be here.
went to night markets as well. taiwan really takes the night markets seriously. not just any old pasar malam ok. those ppl there sell expensive jeans, bags, wallets as well ok! managed to get stuff there =) not bad. oh, and the much hyped about street snacks, i personally find ntg too wonderful abt them, seriously. the only thing i really like is the chou dou fu. (haha) I LOVE IT. almost every day on the trip we were eating that la. they are addictive. the rest like oyster omelette, oyster meesua, what da chang bao xiao chang... were all so-so onlyl. (maybe u need to develop a certain taste for it). i liked the di gua as well (well, im a sweet potato fan) but i sorta like the orange ones in singapore better than the yellow/purple ones there.
we are a very LUCKY tour group.
realised something there as well. the best icebreakers are card games. coz really, u can't not talk when u play games right. so a few of us sitting at the back of the coach started playing daidi and bridge and after that started talking as well. and taadaa, ice broken. according to the tour guide, she said that we were a very weird grp coz we werent talking to each other even after a few days. heh. anti-social... ahaha no la. but after a while, it became better la. oh, and the second best ice breaker is eating at the same table. =) u start talking after a while. so yupp. can say i made some friends during this trip which is itself an amazement. like reallyyy. hopefully it lasts beyond one week of the trip. heh im kidding la.
okk. so now sch is reopening soon and im kinda sadd yet excited at the same time. so hwachong here i come. yeaa.. and ppl, don't forget me.
this isnt exactly a short post....
happy orientation ppl. =)
=)
