i'm staring at the paper, mind in a blank.
two and a half hours
of essentially doing nothing
since there'll be nothing much i can do.
i thumbed through the pages
glanced at the questions,
certain i can't do more than a quarter.
i picked up my pen, starting penning rubbish
in a bid to fill up the stark white foolscap.
the organic compounds loom large and unforgiving,
in desperation i try to recall reaction mechanisms,
functional groups, ethers, lactones, lactams,
and everything i tried cramming
in the past day and a half,
to no avail. so i sit there
taking my own sweet time to write to think,
writing and rewriting answers
which are wrong.
continuing in this manner
aimlessly, i contend the thought of just
going to sleep and spending two hours in a better way.
but i decide no, i will go on
and at least do those i can do.
but what good will it do? for
the pass grade seems distant,
all i can get is a U.
